He was challenged to enter mail-in sweepstakes until he won Β₯1 million (about $8,000) in total. He started with nothing (including no clothes), was cut off from outside communication and broadcasting, and had nothing to keep him company except the magazines he combed through for sweepstakes entry forms.

Hulu just dropped a new documentary that is so Twisted deceptive but yet inspiring I don't know whether to uh give it a standing ovation or instantly become triggered it's called the contestant without giving away too much it follows a man named hamatsu who is tasked with staining in a tiny one room apartment and must survive off of winning magazine sweep sticks for example dog food and can only leave after acquiring enough prizes worth 1 million yen the setup is insane the execution is insane the television producer who thought of this nefarious form of entertainment is beyond insane the interesting but weird thing is that this all happened before reality shows were really even a thing heck even before The Truman Show was released it's a inspiring because of how far ahead this was and you're able to dissect everything and figure out why reality shows are so popular now the strength of the human spirit in times of need and really the lengths people will go to for fame
